"Democracy is Ingrained in Our DNA": PM Modi Highlights India's Collaborative Spirit in Guyana

Georgetown, Guyana – Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a historic address in Guyana, emphasized India’s commitment to democracy and its ethos of collaboration, distancing the nation from any expansionist aspirations. His speech, delivered to a distinguished audience including Guyanese officials, Indian diaspora members, and regional leaders, underscored India’s unwavering belief in unity and cooperative progress.  

"Democracy is ingrained in our DNA; we have always embraced collaboration over an expansionist vision," PM Modi asserted, drawing applause from the crowd. He highlighted India's longstanding cultural and historical ties to Guyana, home to a significant population of Indian origin, tracing back to the indentured labor migration of the 19th century.  

PM Modi also celebrated the growing partnership between India and Guyana, particularly in the areas of renewable energy, technology, and education. Stressing the importance of shared values, he remarked, "Our partnership is not just about economic growth but about building a future that respects diversity and fosters inclusivity."  

The visit marks a new chapter in India’s outreach to Latin America and the Caribbean. Modi’s remarks are seen as part of India's strategy to strengthen diplomatic ties, emphasizing its role as a global leader rooted in democratic ideals and peaceful coexistence.
