RSS Condemns Nagpur Violence, Dismisses Aurangzeb Debate as "Historical Distraction"

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today strongly denounced the recent communal clashes in Nagpur while brushing aside the renewed political debate over Mughal emperor Aurangzeb as "irrelevant to contemporary India."

At a press briefing in Nagpur, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale stated, "Violence has no place in a civilized society. We unequivocally condemn the incidents in Nagpur and appeal for peace." The statement came after two days of unrest following a religious procession that turned violent, leaving several injured and properties damaged.

When questioned about political leaders invoking Aurangzeb's name during the tensions, Hosabale responded: "We shouldn't waste our energies debating long-dead historical figures when living Indians need harmony. Aurangzeb belongs to history books, not modern political discourse."

The remarks come amid heightened political rhetoric, with some groups drawing parallels between the 17th century ruler and current social tensions. RSS officials emphasized their focus remains on "present challenges."

Local RSS volunteers have been working with police and community leaders to restore calm. "Our swayamsevaks are helping affected families regardless of community," said Nagpur RSS chief Alok Deshpande, showing reporters relief materials being distributed in riot-hit areas.

Historians welcomed the RSS stance. "This mature approach helps depoliticize history," said Dr. Meera Nanda of Nagpur University. "Aurangzeb's legacy is complex, but using it to inflame passions today serves no purpose."

The organization's measured response has drawn praise from unexpected quarters. "When even RSS calls for moving beyond historical blame games, perhaps others should listen," remarked social activist Fatima Khan.

As Nagpur limps back to normalcy, the RSS's twin message - rejecting both violence and historical polarization - is being seen as significant in current charged atmosphere. Local shops reopened today as police maintained vigil, with community leaders from all sides holding peace meetings.
