Sonia Gandhi Discharged From Hospital After Routine Health Check-Up

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was discharged from Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Wednesday evening following a brief hospitalization for routine medical tests, according to party sources. The 76-year-old political stalwart was admitted earlier in the day for what doctors described as "a scheduled health evaluation."  

Hospital authorities confirmed that Mrs. Gandhi underwent a series of precautionary diagnostic tests, all of which yielded normal results. "Her medical parameters are absolutely stable. This was a planned check-up, and she has been advised routine follow-ups," said a senior hospital official speaking on condition of anonymity.  

A small group of Congress workers gathered outside the hospital upon hearing news of her admission, reflecting the enduring loyalty she commands within the party. "We're relieved to see her return home in good health. She's our guiding force," said Harish Yadav, a local Congress functionary who had come to show support.  

The Gandhi family's long association with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital dates back decades, with both Sonia and her late husband Rajiv Gandhi having received treatment there. Security around the hospital was tightened during her brief stay, with Delhi Police personnel and Congress security detail managing the arrangements.  

Political observers noted that Mrs. Gandhi's health check-up comes at a crucial time for the Congress party, which is preparing for upcoming state elections. "Her well-being remains central to the party's functioning, even as she has taken a step back from frontline politics in recent years," commented political analyst Prof. Meena Kaushik.  

Family sources revealed that Mrs. Gandhi returned to her 10 Janpath residence and is expected to resume her normal schedule shortly. Her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was reportedly by her side during the hospital visit, though neither has made any public statement about the medical check-up.  

This routine hospitalization follows Mrs. Gandhi's extended medical treatment abroad last year for an undisclosed condition. The Congress leader has maintained an active though reduced public schedule in recent months, making selective appearances at party events and parliamentary sessions.  

Hospital authorities emphasized that there was no cause for concern and described the tests as part of regular health monitoring for someone of her age profile. As news of her discharge spread, messages of goodwill poured in from across the political spectrum, underscoring her stature as one of India's most respected political figures.
