Mamta Kulkarni reappointed as Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhada after resignation: 'False allegations were made against my guru by some people'
Mamta Kulkarni Reinstated as Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhada Amid Controversy
In a surprising turn of events, former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni has been reappointed as Mahamandaleshwar (spiritual leader) of the Kinnar Akhada, a prominent sect within the Kumbh Mela’s religious hierarchy. This decision comes just weeks after her resignation, which she had submitted citing personal reasons. Kulkarni’s reinstatement has reignited discussions about her controversial past and the allegations surrounding her spiritual guru.
Addressing the media at a press conference in Haridwar, Kulkarni expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her by the Akhada. “I stepped down temporarily to allow the truth to surface. False allegations were made against my guru by some people with vested interests. Now that the truth has come to light, I am honored to resume my duties,” she said.
Kulkarni, who rose to fame in the 1990s as a Bollywood star, transitioned to spiritual life in recent years and was initiated into the Kinnar Akhada in 2022. Her appointment as Mahamandaleshwar had initially drawn mixed reactions, with some praising her dedication to spirituality and others questioning her suitability for the role.
The controversy deepened when her spiritual guru, Swami Pranavanand, faced allegations of misconduct and financial irregularities. Kulkarni had resigned from her position shortly after these allegations surfaced, stating that she wanted to distance herself from the negativity. However, with the Akhada’s internal investigation clearing her guru of wrongdoing, she has been welcomed back into her role.
“The allegations were baseless and aimed at tarnishing the reputation of our Akhada. Mamta Kulkarni has shown immense faith and resilience during this challenging time, and we are proud to have her back,” said a senior member of the Kinnar Akhada.
Despite the Akhada’s support, the decision has sparked debate among spiritual circles and the public. While some view Kulkarni’s reinstatement as a victory for truth and justice, others remain skeptical, calling for greater transparency in the investigation process.
Kulkarni, however, remains unfazed by the criticism. “Spirituality is about rising above worldly distractions and focusing on the divine. I am here to serve the Akhada and its followers, and nothing else matters,” she said.
As she resumes her duties, all eyes are on Kulkarni and the Kinnar Akhada, with many hoping that the controversy will pave the way for greater accountability and unity within the spiritual community.
