Maha Kumbh stampede probe suggests a conspiracy, claims BJP MP in Parliament
BJP MP Alleges Conspiracy Behind Maha Kumbh Stampede, Demands High-Level Probe
The tragic stampede during this year's Maha Kumbh Mela, which claimed 12 lives and left dozens injured, may not have been an accident but part of a "deliberate conspiracy," according to explosive claims made by BJP MP Ramesh Pokhriyal in Parliament on Wednesday.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Pokhriyal presented what he called "disturbing evidence" suggesting the stampede at the holy gathering in Prayagraj was "orchestrated to tarnish India's image." The lawmaker demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident that occurred during the Shahi Snan on October 15.
"Eyewitness accounts and preliminary findings indicate the crowd surge wasn't natural," Pokhriyal stated. "Barricades were mysteriously removed, police deployment was inadequate despite warnings, and certain anti-social elements were seen provoking devotees."
The MP's allegations have added fuel to the political fire surrounding the tragedy. While the Uttar Pradesh government's preliminary report cited "unexpected crowd pressure" as the cause, Pokhriyal's intervention has brought fresh scrutiny to the incident.
Victims' families present in the visitors' gallery broke down as Pokhriyal described how "helpless pilgrims, including women and elderly, were crushed in the chaos." He questioned why basic crowd control measures failed at one of India's most systematically organized religious events.
Home Ministry sources reveal security agencies are examining CCTV footage that allegedly shows suspicious movements near the incident site hours before the stampede. However, officials caution against jumping to conclusions, with one senior police officer telling us: "Mass gatherings are inherently unpredictable. We're investigating all angles, including possible negligence."
The Samajwadi Party has dismissed the conspiracy claims as "political opportunism," with spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary countering: "Instead of fixing accountability, the BJP is inventing imaginary enemies. The real failure was in crowd management."
As Parliament witnessed heated exchanges over the issue, religious leaders have called for calm. Mahant Hari Giri of Juna Akhada cautioned: "The Kumbh is about faith. We must not let politics divide devotees in this holy moment."
The government has assured a thorough investigation, with Home Minister Amit Shah stating: "No aspect will be left unexamined. The truth will be placed before the nation." Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the UP government seeking detailed reports.
For the families of victims like 65-year-old Shanti Devi from Bihar, who lost her husband in the tragedy, answers can't come soon enough. "We just want to know how this happened," she said, clutching her husband's photograph outside Parliament. "Was it someone's mistake or someone's plan?"
