BJP MP Nishikant Dubey Files Privilege Motion Against Rahul Gandhi Over Lok Sabha Remarks

The political atmosphere in Parliament turned stormy as BJP MP Nishikant Dubey initiated a privilege motion against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of making "misleading statements" during his recent Lok Sabha speech. The development has intensified the ongoing war of words between the ruling party and opposition during the monsoon session.

The controversy stems from Gandhi's sharp criticism of the government's economic policies during Tuesday's debate, where he claimed that rising inflation was disproportionately affecting the poor while corporations reaped benefits. Dubey, however, countered that the former Congress president had presented "factually incorrect information" and violated parliamentary decorum with his remarks. "When an elected representative deliberately misleads the House with false data, it erodes public confidence in our democratic institutions," Dubey stated outside Parliament, demanding either substantiation or an apology from Gandhi.

Congress leaders quickly rallied behind their colleague, dismissing the motion as a politically motivated attempt to stifle dissent. Senior party figure Jairam Ramesh asserted, "Rahul ji highlighted genuine concerns about the economic hardship faced by common citizens. Rather than engaging with these issues, the government chooses to weaponize parliamentary procedures." Political observers note the move could further strain relations between the two parties, with the opposition likely to portray it as an assault on free expression within the legislature.

The Lok Sabha Speaker will now review the motion to determine whether it warrants referral to the Privileges Committee. While such proceedings rarely result in serious consequences beyond formal admonishments, the episode has already sparked intense debate about the boundaries of parliamentary discourse. On social media platforms, the incident has triggered polarized reactions, with supporters on both sides clashing over the appropriateness of Gandhi's comments and the BJP's response. As the political drama unfolds, all eyes remain on whether this confrontation will escalate into a broader institutional crisis or subside as yet another tempest in Parliament's teacup.
