BJP Stages Historic Comeback in Delhi After 26 Years, Wins 48 Seats in Stunning Victory

In a political earthquake that has reshaped Delhi's landscape, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ended its 26-year drought in the capital by securing a decisive majority of 48 seats in the 70-member assembly. The victory marks a dramatic reversal of fortunes for the party that had struggled to make inroads against the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) decade-long dominance, with jubilant BJP workers celebrating outside the party headquarters as results confirmed their landslide win.

The scale of the BJP's triumph surprised even seasoned political observers, with the party improving its tally from just 8 seats in the previous election to nearly three-fourths of the assembly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's personal campaigning in the capital, combined with a carefully crafted message highlighting national security and local governance issues, appeared to resonate strongly with voters across Delhi's diverse constituencies.

For the AAP, the results delivered a crushing blow, reducing its seat count from 62 to just 20 in a stunning rebuke of its decade-long administration. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who had built his political career on transforming Delhi's governance, conceded defeat in a somber address, promising his party would "reflect and rebuild" after the unexpected reversal.

The election campaign saw both parties trade sharp accusations, with the BJP focusing on allegations of corruption and stalled development projects, while AAP warned against what it called the "politics of division." In the end, voters appeared swayed by the BJP's promise of fresh leadership and closer alignment with the central government's policies.

As Delhi prepares for its first BJP government since 1998, attention now turns to who will become chief minister and how quickly the new administration can deliver on its campaign promises to improve infrastructure, tackle pollution, and enhance public safety. The victory not only cements the BJP's dominance in national politics but also deals a significant blow to one of its most prominent regional challengers, potentially reshaping India's opposition landscape ahead of the next general elections.
