Telangana limits Kingfisher beer supply as Heineken halts production due to a pricing dispute

Telangana limits Kingfisher beer supply as Heineken halts production due to a pricing dispute

Telangana Faces Beer Shortage as Heineken Stops Production Amid Pricing Row

A brewing storm in Telangana has left beer lovers in the state facing an unexpected shortage, following a dispute over pricing between United Breweries and the state government. United Breweries, known for its popular Kingfisher and Heineken brands, has ceased supplying its products to the Telangana Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) due to disagreements over pricing and operating losses.

The disruption has caused significant concern, especially as Kingfisher beer is a staple in many bars and retail outlets across the state. With supply halted, the state has been forced to ration the remaining Kingfisher stock, urging retailers to limit sales to prevent hoarding. Local bar owners and beer enthusiasts have expressed frustration over the sudden unavailability, with some reporting empty shelves and a lack of expected deliveries.

The core of the issue lies in a pricing conflict, with United Breweries citing the inability to raise prices in line with inflation and rising production costs over the past two years. The company has voiced its concerns that the current pricing structure is unsustainable and has led to continuous losses, prompting the halt in supply.

This standoff has caught the attention of industry groups, who are now calling on the Telangana government to resolve the issue swiftly. The Brewers Association of India, in particular, has highlighted the economic contributions of the brewing industry to the state and urged both parties to find a mutually agreeable solution to avoid further disruptions.

As the deadlock continues, residents are left hoping for a quick resolution, as Telangana is one of India’s largest beer markets, with beer consumption playing a significant role in the state’s economy.
