Punjab Police Withdraws Additional Security for Arvind Kejriwal: Here’s Why

In a significant move, the Punjab Police has decided to withdraw the additional security provided to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal. This decision, which has drawn attention from political and public circles alike, comes amidst a reevaluation of security protocols for various leaders across the state.

The additional security had been allocated to Kejriwal when he frequently visited Punjab, particularly during the election campaigns and after AAP’s landslide victory in the state. However, sources within the Punjab Police have clarified that the withdrawal is part of a larger restructuring process to optimize the use of police resources and ensure equitable distribution of security personnel across the state.

Officials have emphasized that this decision does not compromise Kejriwal’s overall security. As the Chief Minister of Delhi, he continues to receive adequate protection provided by the Delhi Police under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Punjab Police’s additional security was supplementary and deemed no longer necessary, given the reduced frequency of his visits to Punjab and the current threat assessment.

This move has sparked reactions from political parties, with some alleging it to be a politically motivated decision. AAP leaders in Punjab, however, have downplayed the development, stating that the Chief Minister’s focus remains on governance and public welfare, not the extent of his security cover.

Experts have pointed out that reallocating security personnel could benefit Punjab’s strained police force, allowing for better focus on pressing law-and-order issues in the state. The government has assured the public that the decision was made purely on administrative grounds after a thorough review.

While this change may stir political discussions, officials maintain that public safety and efficient use of resources remain the top priorities in Punjab’s evolving security strategy. For now, Kejriwal’s core security arrangements remain intact, ensuring his safety as he continues his duties both in Delhi and across the nation.
