Omar Abdullah Praises PM Modi for Keeping Election Promises, Hopes for J&K's Statehood Restoration

In a noteworthy gesture, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling key election promises, especially in the context of the region’s electoral process. During his speech at the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel in the Gagangir area, Abdullah expressed confidence that another long-awaited promise—restoring the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir—would soon come to fruition.

"I believe that just as the promise of holding elections was fulfilled, the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood will also be honored in the near future," said Abdullah, addressing the audience with optimism.

The Z-Morh tunnel, which connects Gagangir to Sonamarg, is a monumental infrastructure project that is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and boost the local economy. The ₹2,700 crore tunnel will provide year-round access to the picturesque Sonamarg region, renowned for its tourism potential.

Abdullah, however, also took a moment to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the workers involved in the project, particularly remembering the seven civilian workers who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack while working on the tunnel last year. "Their dedication to the development of Kashmir should never be forgotten," he remarked, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of workers in conflict-affected areas.

As discussions surrounding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood continue, Abdullah's comments reflect a growing sentiment among the region's leaders and residents for the fulfillment of this long-standing demand. His hopeful words about statehood restoration stand as a testament to the ongoing dialogue between local and central government authorities, with the people of Jammu and Kashmir eagerly awaiting the promised changes.
