Maha Kumbh 2025 Begins: CM Yogi Welcomes Devotees to the World's Largest Spiritual Gathering

The sacred banks of the Sangam in Prayagraj have come alive as the Maha Kumbh 2025, one of the world’s largest spiritual congregations, officially commenced. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended a heartfelt welcome to millions of devotees, seers, and pilgrims from across India and the globe, inviting them to partake in the spiritual and cultural grandeur of this once-in-12-years event.

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said, “The Maha Kumbh is not just a festival; it is a symbol of India’s timeless spiritual heritage. It unites us all, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and nationality. We welcome every pilgrim with open arms to experience the divinity of Prayagraj.”

The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the inaugural lamp, followed by the first Shahi Snan (royal bath) at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati rivers. The banks of the Sangam have been meticulously prepared, with over 3,000 acres transformed into a vibrant city of tents, spiritual arenas, and facilities to host an estimated 40 million devotees daily.

Elaborate security measures have been implemented, with over 20,000 personnel deployed to ensure the safety of pilgrims. High-tech surveillance systems, drone monitoring, and crowd management strategies have been put in place to facilitate a smooth experience.

In line with CM Yogi’s emphasis on cleanliness and sustainability, this year’s Kumbh has taken a significant leap towards being environmentally friendly. Plastic-free zones, water recycling systems, and green energy initiatives have been integrated into the event.

For many devotees, the Maha Kumbh is not just an opportunity for spiritual growth but also a chance to reconnect with their cultural roots. “I have waited 12 years for this moment. The Sangam is more than a river to me; it is a divine blessing,” said 68-year-old Shanti Devi from Rajasthan, who arrived with her family to take the holy dip.

Religious leaders, including saints from various sects, expressed their gratitude to the government for ensuring seamless arrangements. The Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad lauded the administration for its dedication to maintaining the sanctity and smooth functioning of the event.

As the chants of “Har Har Gange” echo across the city and devotees flock to the sacred waters, the Maha Kumbh 2025 stands as a testament to India’s enduring spiritual traditions and its ability to bring people together in a shared journey of faith and devotion.
