Karnataka Health Minister Assures Public Amid Rise in HMPV Cases: “No Need for Panic”

Karnataka’s Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, has sought to calm public concerns following a recent rise in cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in the state. After convening an emergency meeting with health experts and senior officials, Rao reassured citizens that the increase in cases is related to the existing strain of HMPV and does not pose any new or greater threat.

"While we are closely monitoring the situation, I want to assure the public that this is not a new virus or a significant mutation. We have experienced similar outbreaks in the past, and we are taking all necessary steps to prevent further spread," said Rao in a press conference held earlier today.

The surge in HMPV cases has prompted concerns due to its similarities to other respiratory infections, but the Minister emphasized that the strain circulating in Karnataka is one that health authorities are already familiar with and can manage effectively with the current preventive measures in place.

Rao also stressed the importance of following basic hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing and wearing masks in crowded places, to help curb the spread of the virus. He urged citizens, especially those with weakened immune systems, to take extra precautions and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

The state health department has ramped up its surveillance, ensuring that healthcare facilities are equipped and prepared for any potential escalation in cases. Rao assured that the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public and that regular updates will be provided as the situation develops.

"We are fully prepared to handle this situation, and the public should not panic," Rao concluded. He also urged citizens to rely on credible sources for information and to avoid rumors that could cause unnecessary fear.
