AAP's Sanjay Singh Alleges Bias by Delhi Poll Official; DEO Responds to Claims

In a political twist ahead of elections, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh has accused a Delhi poll official of covertly sharing posts from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Singh claimed that the official's actions demonstrate partisan behavior, raising concerns about fairness and impartiality in the electoral process.

Addressing the media, Singh alleged that the official used a personal X account to repost BJP propaganda, which, he argued, undermines the integrity of the democratic process. "How can the public trust the election machinery when officials tasked with ensuring neutrality appear to be aligned with one party?" he questioned.

Responding swiftly to the allegations, the District Election Officer (DEO) issued a statement denying any deliberate wrongdoing. The DEO clarified that the account in question was personal and not linked to official duties. The statement also emphasized that all poll officials are regularly briefed about maintaining neutrality, especially during election periods.

The controversy has sparked a debate about the role of personal social media activity by government officials and the thin line between personal expression and professional responsibility. While AAP has demanded disciplinary action against the official, BJP leaders dismissed the allegations as baseless and a political stunt.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reportedly taken note of the situation and is reviewing the claims. Sources suggest that officials are likely to issue new guidelines regarding social media conduct for government employees during elections to prevent similar controversies in the future.

This incident has added to the already charged political atmosphere in Delhi, with parties exchanging barbs and trying to rally public opinion. As the election draws closer, maintaining public trust in the electoral system will remain crucial for all stakeholders involved.
