Rajasthan: Rescue Operations Enter Day 7 as Three-Year-Old Girl Remains Trapped in Borewell
Rajasthan: Rescue Efforts Enter Day 7 as Community Prays for Trapped 3-Year-Old Girl
In the quiet village of Sarund in Rajasthan’s Kotputli district, hope persists as rescue teams enter the seventh day of efforts to save three-year-old Chetna, who remains trapped in a 150-foot-deep borewell. The child fell into the borewell on December 23 while playing on her family’s farmland, leaving the community shaken and united in prayers for her safe recovery.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities have been working tirelessly under challenging conditions to bring the girl to safety. Heavy rain earlier in the week caused delays, and the complex terrain has made the rescue operation painstakingly slow.
Rescuers have dug a parallel pit and are attempting to connect it to the borewell through an L-shaped tunnel. Two NDRF personnel are manually drilling the tunnel, inching closer to the child, whose location is being monitored through a live camera feed. Earlier efforts to pull her up using clips were only partially successful, as she was brought up by 30 feet before getting stuck again.
The girl’s mother, Dholi Devi, is inconsolable and has pleaded with authorities to hasten the operation. “It has been seven days. My daughter is hungry, thirsty, and scared. If this had happened to someone influential, would it have taken this long? Please save my child,” she said, her voice filled with anguish.
The village has come together to support the family, offering prayers and assistance as they await news of her rescue. Local authorities have assured that every possible resource is being deployed to ensure Chetna’s safety.
This heart-wrenching incident has reignited calls for stricter regulations on open borewells in rural areas, with activists emphasizing the urgent need to address the recurring dangers they pose to children. For now, all eyes remain on the rescue teams as they battle against time and nature to save an innocent life.
