Maharashtra Politics: Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs Set to Meet PM Modi After Two Rejected Requests

In a significant political development, Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 16. The meeting comes after two previous requests for an audience were reportedly denied, fueling speculation about growing tensions between the opposition faction and the central government.

Sources within the Shiv Sena (UBT) revealed that the MPs aim to discuss pressing issues faced by Maharashtra, including farmers’ distress, pending infrastructure projects, and concerns over the alleged misuse of central agencies against opposition leaders. The party has also expressed its intent to highlight grievances about the split within Shiv Sena and its impact on Maharashtra's political landscape.

The decision to approach PM Modi comes at a time when the Shiv Sena (UBT) is navigating challenges posed by the rival Eknath Shinde-led faction, which is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has the backing of the central leadership. This political rivalry has further intensified after the Election Commission of India awarded the original Shiv Sena party name and bow-and-arrow symbol to the Shinde group earlier this year.

Senior party leaders believe the meeting is a crucial step toward ensuring that the voice of Maharashtra’s opposition is heard at the highest level. Speaking to the press, a Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said, “We are not meeting the Prime Minister to seek favors but to ensure justice for Maharashtra. Issues like farmers’ suicides, delayed projects, and political vendettas are crippling the state, and they need immediate attention.”

While the meeting has raised eyebrows, political analysts view it as a strategic move by the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction to assert its relevance and pressurize the central government to address state-level concerns. With the Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, the Shiv Sena (UBT) appears to be carefully balancing opposition politics with opportunities for dialogue with the ruling establishment.

As the December 16 meeting approaches, all eyes are on whether this dialogue will yield tangible results for Maharashtra or deepen the already complex political dynamics in the state.
