Telangana High Court to seek quashing of FIR in connection with a woman’s death during Pushpa 2 screening
Allu Arjun has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court, seeking the quashing of an FIR filed against him following a tragic incident during the screening of his film "Pushpa 2: The Rule" in Hyderabad. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, when a stampede broke out at a local theater, leading to the death of 35-year-old Revathi and leaving her young son severely injured.
The FIR, lodged by the police at Chikkadpally, accuses Arjun, his security team, and the theater management of negligence in failing to anticipate the crowd size and properly manage the safety measures. The police suggest that the actor's unannounced appearance at the premiere led to a dangerous surge in audience numbers, resulting in the fatal stampede.
In his petition, Allu Arjun maintains that he followed all legal protocols, securing the necessary permissions for his attendance. His legal team is now pushing for the quashing of the FIR, arguing that the tragic events were an unforeseen consequence and that he should not be held responsible for the actions of the crowd or the theater’s lack of crowd control measures.
On December 13, 2024, following his arrest, Arjun was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court. The court recognized that the actor had cooperated fully with the investigation and had complied with the necessary legal requirements. The court has set a hearing date to further review the case and determine whether the FIR should be dismissed.
In a show of solidarity with the grieving family, Allu Arjun has publicly pledged ₹25 lakh in financial support to the deceased woman's family and has committed to covering the medical expenses for her injured son.
The case has reignited debates around safety protocols for high-profile public events, with critics questioning the role of both organizers and celebrities in ensuring the well-being of attendees.
