Supreme Court of India has granted interim anticipatory bail to Malayalam actor Siddique in a rape case

The Supreme Court of India has granted interim anticipatory bail to Malayalam actor Siddique in a rape case,
providing him relief from immediate arrest. The allegations were made by a young actress who claims that Siddique
sexually assaulted her in 2016. Siddique denies the charges, describing them as baseless and a misuse of legal
processes.

This case is part of a broader discussion about systemic abuse in the Malayalam film industry, especially following
revelations from the Justice Hema Committee report, which highlighted issues of exploitation and gender-based
misconduct within the industry. Siddique's legal team argued that the eight-year delay in filing the complaint raises
questions about its validity; however, the court has yet to make a determination on the merits of the case.

Previously, the Kerala High Court denied Siddique's plea for anticipatory bail, prompting him to appeal to the Supreme
Court. The Court's decision to grant interim protection allows the actor to avoid arrest while the investigation and
legal proceedings are ongoing.
