Election Commission Orders BJP to Take Down Controversial Video Amid Political Tensions in Jharkhand

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Jharkhand BJP unit to remove a contentious video from its social media platforms following a complaint lodged by the Indian National Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). The opposition parties alleged that the video contained objectionable content aimed at discrediting their leaders and violating the model code of conduct ahead of the upcoming state elections.

  

The video, which went viral shortly after its release, was accused of spreading misinformation and using inflammatory language. Congress and JMM representatives submitted a formal complaint to the ECI, urging immediate action. After a preliminary review, the ECI found merit in the allegations and issued a directive to the BJP to take down the video immediately.

  

A senior official from the Election Commission stated, "We are committed to ensuring a level playing field for all political parties. Any content that disrupts communal harmony or violates election norms will not be tolerated."  

Reacting to the directive, the BJP's Jharkhand unit claimed the video was "misinterpreted" and intended to highlight governance issues. Meanwhile, opposition leaders welcomed the ECI's swift response and called for stricter monitoring of digital campaigns.  

This incident underscores the growing influence of social media in Indian elections and the challenges of regulating online content during politically charged times.
